The weather may have thrown everything it had at Europe’s Ryder Cup Team during three dramatic days at The K Club, Ireland – but ProQuip’s specially designed team rain suit, featuring an ultra-lightweight and virtually silent waterproof fabric, proved to be the ultimate winning weatherwear.
According to captain Ian Woosnam, the exclusively produced silk-like fabric was the best weatherwear any Ryder Cup team has ever worn, freeing the Europeans to play their best golf in the worst weather.
“I would like to thank ProQuip for its contribution to such an outstanding Ryder Cup victory,” he said. “We always knew that the weather could be a factor in Ireland, which is why we spent so much time ensuring the players had the best performing rain suits available.
“The quietness of the fabric was a key benefit in the performance of this suit, which is so light and comfortable you hardly know you are wearing it.”
ProQuip’s Silk Touch rain suit was featured on BBC Breakfast News in a report explaining the special rain suit the European Ryder Cup Team would be wearing which listed the features and benefits of the ultra-lightweight and virtually silent waterproof fabric.
The actual European Team rain suit, in distinctive navy, royal and gold colours, will not be released for sale. However, the fabric technology and design – long-sleeve jacket or playing top with zip-off sleeves – is virtually identical to ProQuip’s award-winning Silk Touch range, now available in the shops.
Richard Head, ProQuip’s managing director and chief designer, said, “I received many positive comments from the players about their suits, which were all individually tailored and fitted. They liked the softness of the fabric, its light weight and stretchable lining, which gave them extra freedom of movement.
“It’s clear that the special new fabric we developed for the European Team – and which is now available in Silk Touch – is the best performing weatherwear available.”
ProQuip, which also supplied more than 1,500 rain suits for all the Ryder Cup officials and marshals, is enjoying one of its most successful years in its 25-year history. The award-winning Silk Touch range is proving to be ProQuip’s most successful export to America and with more than three-quarters of a billion television viewers in 140 countries watching the Ryder Cup, ProQuip is on course to increase its turnover by more than 15% in 2006.
