Greg Norman is to step down as chief executive of LIV Golf in the new year and is, according to media reports, expected to be replaced by Scott O’Neil, the former chief executive of the Philadelphia 76ers basketball team.

Speaking in an interview with Indiana-based TV channel WISH-TV, which broadcasts LIV Golf tournaments in the United States, Norman, who has been chief executive of the Saudi-backed circuit since October 2021, said: “Is there going to be a new CEO? Yes. There will be a new CEO. Will I always have a place and be involved with LIV to some capacity? Yes. I’ll always have that. Because the impact that has been created in the game of golf by LIV, I’ve had a small, small piece of that, which I’m proud of.

“I’ve seen it [LIV Golf] come from a business model on paper to giving birth on the golf course to where it is today.”

Norman, who is also on the board of LIV Golf, said that his contract runs until August 2025, although it is expected that the new CEO will be in place ahead of the start of the new LIV Golf season in February.
