The renowned Scottish golf clothing brand, Glenmuir, has designed and supplied the shirts and knitwear for 14 successive European Ryder Cup Teams since Europe’s famous first victory on American soil in 1987 at Muirfield Village.
Since Glenmuir’s beginnings in 1891, the Lanark-based family business has been committed to creating golfwear with impeccable care, passion, skill and dedication to the craft. Glenmuir have worked hand in hand with European Captain Paul McGinley since February 2013 in designing the shirts and knitwear for the victorious European Ryder Cup Team at Gleneagles, Scotland.
Glenmuir’s Managing Director, Mikhel Ruia said: “We have had a phenomenal response and reaction to this year’s knitwear and shirts worn by Team Europe at Gleneagles. In particular, there has been an outstanding interest in Friday’s Saltire Zip Neck Sweater worn on the first match day from individuals from as far as Chile to Canada, Russia to Malaysia enquiring about the sweater as well as a number of high profile individuals including Prime Ministers, Sporting Legends and Business Tycoons which we are all greatly humbled by.”
The company also witnessed record sales in the run up to The 2014 Ryder Cup and also an exceptional demand at the event itself. Mikhel added: “We saw a record number of sales of merchandise with spectators, either shopping online from home or on site at the event, all keen to get their hands on their very own piece of Ryder Cup history. Our volumes surpassed all the levels achieved in any of the previous 13 Ryder Cup matches which Glenmuir have been involved in.
“A significant number of our 95 strong Lanark based team made the trip to Gleneagles to passionately root for Team Europe and put in extensive hours to contribute to the success of the Merchandise programme for which I am extremely grateful”.
Glenmuir’s Design and Buying Director, Ann Miller, who worked on the European Team’s outfits since February 2013 is now working on launching a limited edition of Glenmuir’s iconic Friday Saltire Zip Neck Sweater. She encourages all those interested in the sweater, which will be available in limited quantities and only for a certain period of time, to sign up for to News and Offers at www.glenmuir.com to be notified of the launch which is expected in the coming weeks.
On the future of the brand whose 125th Anniversary is fast approaching, Glenmuir’s Managing Director, Mikhel Ruia, added: “Having been part of this truly global sporting spectacle since 1987 is a great honour for Glenmuir. The part played by teamwear in bonding players together should not be underestimated and we would like to think that Glenmuir have contributed in some way to Team Europe’s victories over the past 26 years.
“We are looking forward to The 2016 and 2018 Ryder Cup matches but for now we will remain committed and focused on designing and crafting traditional but forward thinking golf clothing dressing beginners and professionals alike, of every level and generation, all coming together for the love of the game.”
