Glenmuir, the leading Scottish golfwear brand, is looking back on 2012 as one of the proudest in its 121-year history.
The Lanark-based company received unparalleled recognition this year as the premier supplier of crested golfwear to some of the greatest sporting events and revered associations in the world.
The European Ryder Cup Team’s fightback in the ‘Miracle at Medinah’ – while wearing special Seve Ballesteros embroidered Glenmuir shirts and sweaters – was the pinnacle of an incredible 12 months for the company.
As well as watching their clothing inspire a thrilling Ryder Cup victory, Glenmuir was also presented with a special award on the eve of the competition in September to mark their 25 years as a Preferred Supplier to the European Ryder Cup Team.
This followed similar recognition from the PGA in August, as managing director, Colin Mee, accepted a special engraved plaque on behalf of everyone at Glenmuir for 20 years’ support of the prestigious PGA Professional Championship.
Not only that, in November the PGAs of Europe presented Glenmuir with the coveted Christer Lindberg Bowl – the first time it has ever been given to a company.
The award recognises people who have made a significant contribution to the game, with past winners including influential figures such as George O’Grady, Peter Dawson, Annika Sorrenstam, the Solheim Family and PGAs of Europe board member, Ken Schofield.
Said Colin Mee: “It has been an incredible year for Glenmuir and we are so proud and delighted to have been honoured in so many ways.
“It’s important to recognise the enormous effort that everyone at the company puts into building and maintaining the relationships we have with our partners, customers and organisations at all levels of golf – and the awards we received this year are testament to that.
“On a personal level, I will never forget receiving our Ryder Cup award from Jose Maria Olazabal on the official plane to Medinah. That was extremely special and is a memory that will stay with me forever.”
As well as its awards, Glenmuir also supported Seve Day, the national event organised to commemorate the legendary golfer and provided clothing for a team of injured servicemen representing the UK Battle Back Golf Programme.
Sunderland of Scotland, distributed by Glenmuir, also celebrated in 2012 when the company’s superb Dolphin clothing helped Sunderland to be named ‘Waterproof Supplier of the Year’ by Foremost Golf members.
It’s the fifth time in a row the suit has scooped the prestigious award.
