At last week’s EGCOA conference in Berlin the ‘best new idea’ was identified as FirstGolf®, the concept of Howard Swan and Gill Wilson to provide simple facilities, globally, to broaden the base of the game.
Swan, leading his golf course design practice in making a presentation on Firstgolf, stressed the need for a simplistic approach to developing the game which made it:
• Available
• Affordable; and
• Sustainable
He met with a large amount of interest from more than 200 delegates at the European Golf Course Owners Conference looking at providing facilities for the young, the old, men, women, children … together as families, as communities….
Howard Swan next takes Firstgolf to India where a new project in Bangalore will commence next month to establish Firstgolf in the subcontinent as an open public facility for all.
Then Wilson and Swan will go on to the Asia Pacific Golf Development Summit at Mission Hills to bring the initiative to China. www.golfconference.org
