European Golf Design (EGD) has been ranked among the Top 10 Most Active Architects in the world by global golf industry magazine Golf Inc, and is one of only two European practices to feature in the list.

EGD, the joint venture golf course design company of IMG and the European Tour, was included in the influential list based on its business performance, with 13 course openings from 2007 to 2011.

EGD was established in 1992 and has made its mark on more than 50 projects across four continents, including the acclaimed Twenty Ten Course at the Celtic Manor Resort, venue of the 2010 Ryder Cup, and currently has three of its course designs in Golf World ‘s Top 100 Golf Courses in the World rankings.

Jeremy Slessor

Jeremy Slessor, EGD Managing Director, said: “EGD has gone from strength to strength because we have experience, expertise and a proven track record in designing world-class golf venues. We offer quality, sustainability, marketability and variety, which developers take confidence in.

“In addition to our own in-house team of designers, our relationship with IMG and the European Tour lends itself to signature golf course design projects. Working with the likes of Colin Montgomerie and Annika Sörenstam, who have an instinctive eye for design and genuinely engage in the creative process, offers developers the opportunity to raise the profile of their projects and add value to their resort or real estate sales.”

Jeremy added: “EGD has a reputation for exceeding expectations on every project we work on, so it is rewarding to be recognised for both the quality of our work and our proactive success in the global market place.”

EGD is active in emerging markets, with its latest projects including the award-winning PGA National Russia development at Zavidovo, which is set to open in summer 2012. It also won plaudits for Navarino Dunes, Greece, designed in conjunction with Bernhard Langer and rated one of the ‘World’s Most Exciting New Courses’ by Golf World in 2010.

Other stand out projects include two-time Spanish Open venue, PGA Catalunya Resort, Barcelona, designed with the European Tour’s Neil Coles and Angel Gallardo, plus signature designs with Sir Nick Faldo for Sporting Club Berlin’s Faldo Course, and The Montgomerie Course at Carton House Golf Club, Ireland, with Colin Montgomerie.

The UK based practice has also designed courses for a number of European Tour Properties, including Linna Golf, Finland, and Golf  & Country Club Fleesensee, Germany.
