Dromoland Castle launches Corporate Golf Challenge

9.45am 23rd October 2018 - Travel

Dromoland Castle, one of the most famous baronial castles in Ireland – and a favourite holiday retreat for an exclusive cast list of celebrities and royals – provides a suitably high-class setting for the launch of a new corporate golf tournament which tees off the month.

Dromoland Castle’s managing director Mark Nolan and course manager Paul Coleman launching the resort’s Corporate Challenge

The inaugural Corporate Golf Challenge at Dromoland Castle offers the chance for two-person company teams to take part in a series of round robin league matches against other local companies, with the overall winners crowned the best corporate golf pairing in the West of Ireland.

Dromoland Castle, which is 20 minutes from Shannon, boasts a superb Ron Kirby-designed championship course. First opened in 2003, and recently host of the Irish Club Professionals PGA Championship, the course’s 18 beguiling holes meander through 450 acres of shady woodland, open rolling pasture and natural lakes and streams, with the stunning castle providing a stirring backdrop to the challenge that awaits each competing pair.

The Corporate Golf Challenge will take place over the winter, with the play-offs being held next March. Teams are guaranteed four matches, and each round includes access to the golf academy for a warm-up, and a post-round meal in the castle’s Figtree Restaurant. The format is fourball betterball Stableford, with competitors playing off 9/10ths of each individual handicap. The price for entry is €600 per team.

The Corporate Golf Challenge boasts a prize fund of €5,000, with the overall champions winning €3,000, plus a free corporate golf day, Titleist golf gear, luxury overnight stays at Dromoland Castle, and academy membership.

“The Challenge is an opportunity for local business people to network and engage over golf,” says Mark Nolan, managing director of Dromoland Castle. “There’s an outstanding business community here in the West of Ireland. We are distinctly aware of the value and benefits of local contacts, so this golf event is a chance to do that out on the course. We welcome those keen golfing executives, men and women alike, to enter, network and above all have some good, competitive fun.”
