Club Car, the world’s largest manufacturer of small-wheel, zero-emissions electric vehicles and Official Supplier to The 2014 Ryder Cup, presented Paul McGinley with his own European Team Captain’s Car at this year’s BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth Club, Surrey.
During a week at The European Tour headquarters, the 46-year-old took time out for numerous Ryder Cup engagements, including acquainting himself with his new set of wheels ahead of the 40th edition of the much-anticipated biennial golf competition which will be held at Gleneagles, Scotland, this September.
The Irishman has played in three victorious Ryder Cup teams – in 2002, 2004 and 2006 – and helped captains Colin Montgomerie and José María Olazábal, in 2010 and 2012 respectively, keep track of their teams’ winning performances to make history on both sides of the Atlantic, in the role of Vice Captain.
“Our long-standing association with The European Tour and The Ryder Cup has allowed us to understand what is essential to the operation and smooth running of golf’s most prestigious team event,” commented Club Car’s Kevin Hart, Sales Director Golf for the EMEIA region.
“Enabling match officials, camera crews, as well as Captains and Vice Captains to cover the grounds and keep up with play is a huge logistical operation.
“However, our experience at servicing big international events means The European Tour can put its trust in Club Car for the on-course logistics of the ultimate tournament in matchplay golf, and watch the drama, camaraderie and incredible sportsmanship unfold.”
As The Ryder Cup returns to Scotland for only the second time in its history, Club Car gears up to supply the Home of Golf with over 300 passenger and utility vehicles to help drive one of the world’s largest sporting events, watched on television daily by 500 million people in 183 countries.
Club Car is also an Official Supplier to The European Tour and has been named main provider to The 2015 Solheim Cup which will be held at St. Leon-Rot Golf Club in Germany next year.
