Abacus Sportswear, Official Clothing Supplier to The 2013 European Solheim Cup Team, has revealed that in 2013 it has supplied volunteers and staff at key European Tour and Challenge Tour events with over 8,000 garments.

Since becoming an Official Supplier to The European Tour in 2012, the Swedish pioneer of stretch waterproof fabrics has dressed thousands of volunteers and staff at key European Tour and Challenge Tour tournaments, including Nordea Masters, Irish Open, Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open, Norwegian Challenge, Scottish Hydro Challenge and The Challenge Tour Grand Final.

Readily associated with golf’s elite – Abacus Sportswear has been the Official Clothing Supplier to The European Solheim Cup Team since 2007 – the brand’s support at volunteer and staff-level further emphasises its commitment to the game’s unsung heroes.

“At the London Olympics, much was said about the volunteers who helped ‘make the Games’,” commented Alexandra Yllo, Abacus Sportswear Event and Partner Manager.

“At Abacus, we recognise the invaluable efforts and commitment volunteers and tournament staff bring to each event and believe it is important to support golf’s Games Makers, as they are one of the factors that add to the success of any tournament.”

“Abacus Sportswear’s dedication to golf – from the grass-roots up – is commendable,” added Tim Hunt, Marketing Communications Director. “We appreciate the important role tournament volunteers play in each event, and are pleased to have built a sound relationship with a trusted performance brand such as abacus®.”

Abacus Sportswear supplies event volunteers and official tournament staff of The European Tour with a wide range of items, including the Swedish brand’s leading high-performance waterproof StretchLite™ jackets and Cocona polos which absorb UV, shielding skin from harmful sun rays.

“Growing the game of golf has always been very important to us,” added Abacus Sportswear owner, Sven-Olof Karlsson. “Supporting its development at green-grass and volunteer level is fundamental, especially in an age when golf participation is falling in some countries.

“We believe through our agreements with The European Tour and, more recently, The Asian Tour – both at competitor and volunteer levels – our commitment to this fantastic sport and to the people involved with it is realised.”

In addition to supporting tournament volunteers and official staff, elite amateur golfers and national teams, Abacus Sportswear also created a unique ‘Local Heroes’ campaign which allows everyday golfers to experience life as a Tour player, with access to premier coaching clinics, world-class teaching staff and a full abacus® wardrobe.

Abacus Sportswear is an Official Licensee of The 2014 Ryder Cup at Gleneagles and also supplies elite amateur golfers and national teams. It is also a partner of England Golf, Deutscher Golf Verband, Dansk Golf Union, Norges Golfforbund and more recently the Czech and Royal Belgian Golf Federations.
