Golf Course 2030 was established this year as an industry initiative to consider the impact of factors such as a changing climate on the UK golf industry. At BTME 2019, The R&A will host an open forum that will introduce the initiative to BIGGA members and allow them to have their say on the next steps that should be taken.
A document has been produced, which sets the scene for industry stakeholders to agree on a roadmap that secures optimal golf course condition and playability for current and future generations by addressing challenges from, and taking opportunities presented by, the changing climate, resource constraints and regulation. The document took six months to finalise, giving industry stakeholders the opportunity to feed into its evolution, and is available from all of the industry stakeholders involved in the initiative.
BIGGA has worked closely with The R&A and other governing bodies to formulate the strategy and Steve Isaac, director of sustainability at The R&A, said: “Golf Course 2030 is intended to make golf more accessible, appealing and inclusive and to ensure it is thriving 50 years from now. The golf course is the sport’s foundation and without conditioning and playability that appeals to golfers, the game will not thrive.”
The Golf Course 2030 Forum is being held in the Queen’s Suite from 3pm to 4.30pm on Wednesday 23 January, as part of the BTME 2019 education programme.
