The Algarve is on top of the world after it was voted as the most popular and desirable overseas golf destination for UK golfers in a new survey.
The southern Portuguese coastline, which boasts 43 fabulous courses, is celebrating new recognition of its enduring appeal to the British market following a poll among the readers of ‘Today’s Golfer’ and ‘Golf World’ magazines.
The sun-soaked Algarve came out on top of the pile as the preferred destination after readers were asked where they had been on a golf holiday in the past 12 months. The results saw a combined 37 per cent of Today’s Golfer and Golf World respondents confirm they had visited the region in the past year – almost 10 per cent more than had visited any other destination.
Participants were also asked where they intended to visit in the next 12 months and the results were even more conclusive as almost 60 per cent of Today’s Golfer and Golf World readers picked the Algarve as their number one choice.
It’s just another reason for celebration in the Algarve’s 50th year, which has seen the popular Golden Tees Challenge and another successful hosting of the Portugal Masters tournament on the European Tour.
Maria Manuel Delgado e Silva, ATA golf product manager, said: “It’s fantastic news for the Algarve golf industry to receive this recognition and be so highly-regarded by the readers of Today’s Golfer and Golf World.
“It is always a pleasure to welcome our friends from Britain and we hope many more will choose to visit us in the future to enjoy our wonderful golf courses and the Algarve hospitality.”
The survey was conducted among Today’s Golfer and Golf World UK databases of magazine, online subscribers, competition entrants and consumers engaging with Bauer Golf’s marketing activity.
