With just one week to go before the staging of the 2009 Asia Pacific Golf Summit, the organisers of the event report record delegate attendance.
“We had originally planned for some 300 international delegates but we have already gone screaming past the 500 attendance mark,” declared Mike Sebastian, managing director of the Asia Pacific Golf Development Conferences Pte Ltd, the owner and producer of the Summit.
This year’s Summit is being staged at the multi-million dollar purpose-built Putrajaya International Convention Centre in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on 26-28 October.
“The record registration is a very tangible indication of the growing importance of golf in the Asian arena,” explained Sebastian. “Last minute registrations are still coming in – it is a very nice position to be in.”
Delegates are coming from all over the world and this includes North America, United Kingdom, the Middle East, Europe, Asia and Australia.
The marquee names appearing at this year’s Summit include the most powerful man in the world of golf business, Jack Nicklaus and the legendary Gary Player. There will also be a special appearance by five-time British Open winner, Peter Thomson and an interview with the “King”, Arnold Palmer.
The Chief Executive of the R&A, Peter Dawson makes a special appearance discussing the successful entry of golf into the Olympics and the expected impact that this development will have on the growth of golf globally.
“We have well over 56 world class speakers and presenters assembled at the Summit and it is going to be a real festival of golf for three days,” pointed out Sebastian
Besides the three-day Summit, the first-ever trade-only exhibition that is being staged in conjunction with the Summit has been a sell-out. “We sold out all of our exhibition booths two months before the deadline,” explained an elated Georgina Wong who went on to add, “We are still getting last minute enquiries!”
The Asia Pacific Golf Summit is in its third year and has so far been staged in Singapore and China.
