Ladies across the UK have been flocking to Marriott Golf venues throughout May to take part in free weekly roll-up lessons specifically tailored to encourage more women to take up the sport.
Held every Tuesday, the Women’s Hour sessions have been an enormous success with 349 lessons taking place throughout the month.
The Marriott Golf UK initiative runs parallel to England Golf’s Get into Golf campaign, and focuses specifically on supporting women who may be hesitant to take up the sport due to perceived barriers such as funding, dress code restrictions, and accessibility.
The sessions are therefore open to women of all golfing abilities and each venue has relaxed their dress code guidelines during the weekly sessions that were free for the first month, and will be offered at a small weekly rate for the remainder of the season.
Alison Ainsworth, Senior Director of Golf, Leisure and Spa Operations at Marriott UK is delighted with the success so far:
“It’s great to see women from all walks of life coming together to try their hand at golf as a new sport, or improve their existing game. We’ve had hugely positive feedback from each of our Marriott Golf UK venues, and it’s a real pleasure to hear that the initiative has brought together so many ladies who are enjoying playing golf and socialising with each other at our country clubs.”
Ladies were invited to attend weekly sessions every Tuesday at 11am and 7pm, where they received guidance and coaching, as well as use of the golfing facilities, club hire, and complimentary tea and coffee.
Offered for free throughout the first month, the roll-up lessons will be continuing throughout the season for a small, weekly fee, and dress code restrictions will remain relaxed for all attendees, inviting golfers and non-golfers alike to head down to their nearest Marriott course and start swinging.
“We want Marriott Golf UK to be at the forefront of making the sport more accessible to women,” continued Alison, “the initial success of Women’s Hour is testament to our ongoing commitment to breaking down barriers that may be deterring ladies from the game.”
