Gleneagles is celebrating after picking up a coveted Gold Flag Award for Golf Resorts at the annual 59club golf service awards.

Gleneagles was one of only six UK resorts to receive the highly sought-after award, reflecting the hotel’s commitment to delivering exceptional service and its continual investment in golf facilities.

The accolade is the latest achievement in a string of successes for the luxury Perthshire hotel, after gaining numerous awards in golf and leisure over the past year.

Last summer, Gleneagles won the prestigious Best Golf Resort in the World title for the fourth year running at the 2015 UltraTravel Awards, while in January it was awarded the title of Scotland’s Best Hotel/Resort in the Today’s Golfer Travel Awards 2016 for the third consecutive year.

Gary Silcock, Director of Golf, collected the award at a ceremony in the Forest of Arden Marriot Hotel & Country Club. He said: “Receiving this prestigious award reflects the quality of our facilities and our commitment to providing outstanding service to everyone who comes to play at Gleneagles – whether a first-time visitor, a junior, a local member, a hotel guest or a professional player.

“Every part of the golfer’s journey at Gleneagles is shaped by the pursuit of excellence. From the moment guests step into the clubhouse, they can expect not only a world-class playing experience, but a warm and hospitable welcome, an elegant social environment, an exceptional retail and fitting facility, and coaching provision that is second to none.

“Gaining Gold Flag status provides a solid starting point from which we can continue to enhance this golf experience. We are currently undertaking a substantial programme of improvements to our facilities – with work on the Kings Course, The Dormy Clubhouse and The PGA National Golf Academy.”

He added: “This award, along with our success in numerous other recent awards, strengthens our confidence to achieve even greater heights in 2016.  It also enables us to look towards hosting the European Championships in 2018 and the Solheim Cup in 2019 with a tremendous sense of pride.”

Simon Wordsworth, chief executive at 59club and a fellow of the PGA, said: “Congratulations to the team at Gleneagles who do a fabulous job day in, day out, as shown by their performance in our mystery shopper tests. This ‘flag’ is richly deserved and illustrates a long-term commitment to standards of excellence.”

59club is fast becoming the industry standard for measuring and comparing customer-service levels and analysing all key revenue streams for golf venues, and is committed to the on-going development of club managers and PGA professionals.
