Golf News, the UK’s leading free monthly golfing newspaper, is delighted to announce the appointment of two new personnel.
Richard Maunder, formerly advertising sales manager for golf trade publication Pro Shop Europe, has joined the Golf News team as Associate Publisher, while Darren Kirk, a freelance designer and former group art editor at IPC Media titles Golf Monthly and Women & Golf, has joined as Art Director.
After working for two years at PSE, Richard boasts unrivalled contacts in the equipment industry, and is looking forward to the opportunity to transfer his skills from the trade to the consumer side of the marketplace, as well as widen his remit to cover all aspects of the golf industry.
A member at Cumberwell Park Golf Club near Bath, and a former county player for his native Somerset, Richard will be attending this month’s PGA Merchandise Show in Orlando, and is looking forward to getting catching up with old clients and friends, and making some new ones in his new role, which covers all commercial aspects of GolfNews.
“Over the last two years I’ve meet some great people within the golf industry and I’m delighted that I’m going to be able to continue to develop those partnerships in my new position,” said Richard. “As a regular club golfer, I’ve always enjoyed reading GolfNews, so it’s great to be able to be able to play a part in the spreading the word about it to golf businesses, golf clubs and, of course, golfers around the UK and further afield.”
Always hard to miss in the clubhouses and driving ranges, thanks to its unique A3 format, Darren Kirk will be making GolfNews stand out even more from the crowd in his remit as Art Director.
With over 25 years’ experience in publishing and graphic design, Darren has an in-depth knowledge of the golf magazine business, as well as an in-depth understanding of the game. Owner of his own graphic design business and a keen photographer, Darren is looking forward to getting his hands on the templates for the February issue, which will be the first complete edition under his command.
“I’ve always enjoyed reading Golf News, so it’s an amazing opportunity to get to shape the way that it looks and hopefully make it an even more enjoyable read for golfers,” said Darren, who is member at Harwich and Dovercourt Golf Club in Essex, and plays off a 13 handicap. “The unique format gives a designer scope to make a real impact, so it’s an exciting project to be working on.”
Golf News’ publisher Matt Nicholson said: “It’s great to be able to start the New Year with two such important and exciting appointments. We’re a small team at GolfNews, so it is vital that whoever joins us is able to make a difference to the business, and in Richard and Darren we’ve hired two of the best in the business. I’m looking forward to working with them both, and along with our longstanding editor, Nick Bayly, taking GolfNews forward in 2016 and beyond.”
The next issue of GolfNews is out on February 15th.
