A Family Fiesta of Golfing Generations in Essex

12.49pm 18th September 2015 - Growing the Game

Sara Bennett 1Local Essex PGA Fellow Professional Sarah Bennett held her inaugural “Golfing Generations” family day at Three Rivers Golf and Country Club on 12th September.

The Golfing Generations was the brain child of Bennett who had hosted a similar event for the past three years. Her vision was to open the entries to the County and those from neighbouring Counties, to her delight one pair travelled from Hertfordshire to play in the well organised day. One young girl attended who was totally new to the game, she was encouraged to “have a go” by another girl who Sarah has coached for 5 years. At the end of the day her parent said “I have now been asked to buy some clubs and shoes so that my daughter can continue with the sport, I’m delighted.  She was disappointed we only played 9 holes!”

“Bennett was very pleased with the response to the event which attracted over 50 participants for the first Free Family event held in Essex. My key objectives were met with an open event with two girls new to the game who have now arranged to meet each other and grow their enthusiasm for golf together. These stories are the reason you work for 5 months to host an event such as this, the most amazing smile was witnessed when the youngster collected her trophy”

Sara Bennett 2Juniors of all ages and experience were joined by Mums, Dads and grandparents competing over 9 holes playing foursomes on the fantastic 18 hole Jubilee course at Three Rivers Golf Club. The competition was keenly contested with very specific age and playing experience groups, a shortened course was used for those children under 10. There were a number of other activities arranged on the day which complimented the excitement generated by the putting skills challenge for the children and parents.

One grandma playing on the day said “It was lovely to see the achievements of my granddaughter and to be given the opportunity to play with her. I also have now met a lady with whom I can continue to play. The organisation was superb with the club buzzing with excitement and tremendous feedback “

“This has been a truly amazing day and wonderful to see so many golfers taking part. But an event like this doesn’t come together without the hard work by the volunteers on the day helping me to maintain a safe and fun environment for our juniors. Thanks to Three Rivers for providing the course, all our sponsors and volunteers for enabling us to launch this free fun event.

This is an ideal opportunity to provide a platform for juniors and their family members to experience golf as a family activity. I look forward to growing this event next year and to encourage other new players in Essex and beyond to take part.”

This is the latest event organised by Sarah who has over the last 6 years has provided numerous opportunities for everyone to try golf. To attend one of her many events visit her websites for more information,
