Preparations for STRI’s (Sports Turf Research Institute) free-to-attend annual educational open days are well under way for the 2015 event and the team, based in Bingley, West Yorkshire, has high expectations for this year’s event. Uniquely positioned within the sportsturf industry, STRI is able to showcase the latest industry research and technological trials currently taking place for sports turf products and techniques.
Over the four years the event has been running, the STRI team has welcomed over 1,000 greenkeepers, course managers, groundsmen and sports & amenity turfcare professionals from across the globe to their research facilities, for a peek into STRI’s world. STRI’s belief is that research is fundamental to the progression of the sportsturf industry and that interaction between academics, suppliers and the end user is crucial to success.
Ruth Mann, head of research at STRI, commented: “The successful event format of previous years has been retained and delegates will be grouped and given a tour of eight research stations with interaction and a Q&A session with our STRI team alongside our industry research partners.”
“We’re delighted with the success of previous events and the positive support received from within the sportsturf industry. This allows us to share best practice by providing the latest insight on product innovation, technology and techniques that are being trialled and continuing to advance the industry. Each year we have taken on board the great feedback from attendees and incorporated them into the following year’s programme to ensure the next event is even better!”
2015 research station topics include disease management, the importance of soil aeration, establishment of a healthy sward from seed, experimental stress management, the results of a sports wear trial of 24 different seed mixtures, fungicide and supplements for turf health, the benefits of wetting agents on surface playing quality and innovative construction profiles for sport.
STRI’s research partners attending and supporting this year are Bayer, Campey Turf Care Systems, Everris, Farmura an Aquatrols company, Rigby Taylor, Sherriff Amenity and Syngenta. Each research station will be represented by the company who commissioned the trial in conjunction with a member of STRI’s research team who will interpret & communicate the results.
Carolyn Beadsmoore, head of sales and marketing at STRI said: “STRI Research 2015 is a one-day educational event taking place this year on both 16 & 17 September. Over 70% of places have already been secured and due to the popularity of the event, those interested in attending are encouraged to book quickly to avoid disappointment and we look forward to welcoming them to the STRI.”
