The Golf Foundation has thanked members of the British Golf Industry Association (BGIA) for a pledged donation of £15,000, raised during the BGIA’s annual golf day, held at Woburn Golf Club on 8th April.
The leading golf charity will utilise the funds for its ‘HSBC Golf Roots’ programme which reaches boys and girls through golf in schools, communities and golf clubs. Young people from different backgrounds and abilities are being prepared for regular play through coaching from PGA Professionals using the charity’s Junior Golf Passport, which is endorsed by the Professional Golfers’ Association. Working with its partners, the Golf Foundation has created some 3,500 new junior members in the last year.
The donation from the BGIA will be an important addition to the fundraising requirement of the Golf Foundation, which needs to raise £3 million per year to deliver its strategy and help the golf development bodies of England, Scotland and Wales to grow the game.
Foundation Chief Executive Brendon Pyle said: “The BGIA day is always an excellent event played in a unique atmosphere, which enables us to spread the message to the golf industry of the importance of our national initiatives. This donation highlights great goodwill from BGIA members to support HSBC Golf Roots, which plays a key role in bringing on the next generation of golfers and thus protects the golf industry for the future.
“A big thank-you should go to Chairman Nigel Freemantle and Ciara Morgan of the BGIA, who work so hard to make this event very welcoming, great fun for all involved and a vital day and evening in the golf industry diary.”
Brendon added: “Finally, we would also like to join BGIA members in thanking the whole team at Woburn Golf Club, who once again provided brilliant facilities for all those taking part. Woburn has also been a great friend to the Golf Foundation and has raised thousands of pounds for the charity in recent years by asking club members to make a £2 donation as part of their individual annual subscriptions. This is a great way to help us to support new players coming into club golf.”
