The students on the Performance Golf Academy received a visit from Kevin Feeney a European Tour Tournament Controller and Referee.
Kevin visited the academy based at Morley Hayes in Derby to take part in a question and answer session with the students at which they discussed many interesting topics including:
- Life on the European Tour
- Typical Day for a Tournament Controller & Referee
- Typical Day for a European Tour player
- Rules issues including new changes to the Rules of Golf
- Pace of Play
- Careers in Golf
Kevin started work in golf for the PGA at the Belfry and progressed on to work for the European Tour at Wentworth during 2005.
His current schedule encompasses organising 4 Challenge Tour events and 18 main tour events each season.
Principal responsibilities: the set up of the golf course, pace of play, rules of golf and the general administration of tournaments for elite players and liaison with the media in particular SKY TV.
Kevin explained how he has officiated at 4 Ryder Cups, 14 Majors in the US and UK and administered over 300 professional golf tournaments around the world.
He lists his favourite tournaments as the Dubai Desert Classic, Omega European Master in Crans sur Sierre and the Hong Kong Open.
The students all thoroughly enjoyed listening to Kevin’s experiences, questioning him on many different topics, they also learnt a lot about careers and career routes in golf.
