Fourteen of Korea’s top female stars have teed off at Mission Hills Haikou in China as they contest the Queens Cup celebrity golf tournament.

The unique event, which will be aired on prime-time TV in Korea, sees a United Team of Miss Korea winners and supermodels take on an Entertainment Team comprising actresses and singers.

It is the latest in a string of initiatives designed to enhance links between Mission Hills, China’s premier leisure and lifestyle brand, and Korea’s multiple golfing, entertainment, apparel and travel industries.

The golfers will do battle in a Ryder Cup-style team competition on the picturesque Stone Quarry Course, one of 10 world class layouts at Mission Hills Haikou, the integrated five-star resort on the tropical paradise island of Hainan.

“Chinese are already the number one tourist group to Korea and, in return, Koreans are the largest contingent of overseas visitors to Hainan,” said Mr Tenniel Chu, Vice Chairman, Mission Hills Group.

“Korean consumer brands are becoming increasingly popular not only in China, but around the world, and this ranges from the motor and electronics industries all the way to fashion and entertainment.

“Relations between China and Korea are at an all-time high and at Mission Hills we are embracing Korean culture and welcoming Korean visitors in record numbers.

“We see the Queens Cup as another innovative way of further cementing our cordial ties with Korea. It promises to be a fantastic week of golfing competition and entertainment.”

The Queens Cup, organised by Korean TV channel J Golf and sponsored by golf apparel brand Benjefe, begins today (7 February) and concludes next Thursday. It will be screened on J Golf in 16 one-hour episodes over the next four months.

Lining up for the United Team are three former Miss Koreas, Kwon Jung Joo, Kim Mi Sook and Cho Hye Young, and four supermodels, Lee Sun Jin, Lee Hwa Seon, Kim Tae Yeon and Song Ji Young.

The Entertainment Team features singers Park Sung Eun, Hong Su Yeon and Sun Eun Jung, actresses Kim Sei A, Park Seon Young and Choi Eun Joo, and former gymnast and TV personality Shin Soo Ji.

The United Team is captained by Goo Bon Seung, a director of the Asia Professional Golfer’s Association, while the Entertainment Team is led by actor and Benjefe CEO Jung Jun Ho. The captains will play two rounds as wild cards.
