One of Buckinghamshire’s busiest golf centres has invested in a new aerator to help keep their 27-hole facility in first rate condition. Course Manager at Abbey Hill Golf Centre, Milton Keynes, Ross Edmonds has bought a new Wiedenmann Greens Terra Spike G160 to replace a similar one he purchased in 2000.
“While we’d had our original machine 14 years we definitely got 25 years’ worth of work out of it with no complaints. It was still holding up but the time was right for a new one. The whole package – the work quality, the price and after sales care – suited so well that we knew it had to be another Wiedenmann. After talking through the list of applications we wanted it for with our dealer Farol UK of Thame and Wiedenmann UK Sales Manager, Chas Ayres, it made sense to go for the same again. Our Greens machine tackles not just greens, tees and approaches but does the majority of our fairways too so we were entirely happy to re-order,” said Ross Edmonds.
“It is pretty much used constantly from October until late May, sometimes even a little longer. We haven’t got a large acreage in terms of our fairways but it’s a strong machine and able to take them on and it combines with our 50 hp tractor. We need it to work hard and be reliable as there’s a lot to get round.”
Part of the BGL Golf (Burhill Group Limited), Abbey Hill Golf Centre is a very popular year round operation with 27 holes of golf, made up of an 18 hole parkland course and a 9 hole par 3 short course. Heavily into junior initiatives it also has large driving range and an enviable Pirate Adventure Golf pitch and putt facility that attracts families and visitors. Both Ross and his deputy Kevin Steppings have been there since 2000 and are joined by a further four members of staff and two part timers.
