After announcing its partnership with the country’s only Services golf charity, the On Course Foundation (OCF), Europe’s largest golf retailer, American Golf, is delighted to announce that its first employment placement with the OCF is already under way at its Basingstoke store.
The On Course Foundation supports the recovery of wounded, injured and sick service personnel and veterans through the medium of golf. As well as training and teaching golf skills, OCF strives to create work experience and employment opportunities within the golf industry and has been working alongside American Golf to identify opportunities across its 105 stores in the UK & Ireland.
Rick Webb, who was injured whilst serving in Afghanistan, joined the team in Basingstoke last month and has been working in store on a part-time basis. He first became involved in the OCF after hearing about a visit by founder, John Simpson, to Headley Court, the armed forces’ dedicated rehabilitation centre.
Speaking about his placement Rick said, “Over the last year, the OCF has helped me and my family no end. This placement with American Golf is just the latest example of the important work that the OCF does to support its members and give Servicemen like me the opportunity to try different careers.”
Diane Greenland HR Director at American Golf commented, “Rick has been an inspiration to everyone who has had the pleasure of meeting and working with him. The OCF plays an invaluable role in reshaping its members’ lives and we are really proud to be able to help them achieve their goals.”
With a PGA Pro available in every store, the widest range of products available, free custom fitting for all customers, free home delivery and its iPad ordering system, American Golf is better placed than ever to help golfers to perform to the best of their abilities.
