There has never been a better time to get involved in golf in Nottinghamshire, with the county’s award-winning clubs and PGA professionals supporting a major drive to encourage would-be players.

Now a new initiative is making it easier than ever for ladies to give golf a go and enjoy a sport that brings many health and social benefits.

The Get into golf Ladies Tee Club offers ladies great value regular group coaching led by PGA Professional coaches, followed by a few holes of golf where the coaching can be put into practice.

Between the two sessions, participants can socialise and enjoy refreshments in the clubhouse.

It is an inexpensive way for women of any age to get into the sport and a great way for existing members to get some practice in between competitions.

It is organised under the umbrella of the Nottinghamshire County Golf Partnership.

Clubs to have launched their Ladies Tee Club include Leen Valley GC at Hucknall, Ruddington Grange GC and Edwalton GC, all in the Nottingham area.

Low-cost, relaxed, friendly group coaching led by PGA professional golf coaches is available at clubs across Nottinghamshire.

So whether you are in need of a new hobby to take up with friends, or want the opportunity to play more golf at your club while improving your game this programme could suit you. New players will also get the chance to receive a trial membership package at many clubs involved.

Richard Brown, England Golf Regional Development Officer, urged people to make the most of the benefits playing golf can bring.

He says: “Nottinghamshire has a great golfing tradition and can boast some of the most pro-active and family-friendly golf clubs in the region, where you will be made to feel welcome and can learn the game with like-minded people. The health and social benefits associated with golf are hard to beat.”

Mary Payne, a Get into golf participant, said: “I started attending the Ladies Tee Club at my local club and it is something I can look forward to every week.

“The coaching is great value and the sessions are fun and relaxed. Now we have around 15 ladies coming on a regular basis. What many people don’t realise is that a round of golf can burn around 1500 calories – but it doesn’t even feel like exercise!”
