The inaugural Vietnam Golf Course Management Conference has been hailed a success.

Course superintendents from Hanoi, Dalat, Nha Trang, Ho Chi Minh City and Danang attended the two-day event.

Presented by the Asian Golf Industry Federation (AGIF) in partnership with the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America (GCSAA), the gathering at Danang Golf Club marked the second joint AGIF-GCSAA undertaking since the signing of a Strategic Alliance Agreement between the two organisations six weeks ago.

Following on from a similar conference in the Philippines’ capital of Manila, it was the second in a series of Turfgrass Management Education Seminars and Expositions with further events scheduled for China in November.

Peter Morison, a member of the AGIF’s Education Committee and Director of Sales, Asia Pacific for Jacobsen, said: “There was tremendous enthusiasm from the attendees. Golf may still be in its infancy in Vietnam but there is clearly a huge appetite for knowledge among those in the industry.”

Richard Walne, Chairman of the AGIF’s Education Committee and Toro’s Managing Director, Australia & Asia Pacific, said: “With education being one of the core elements of the Federation, we are committed to raising the profile and standard of turfgrass maintenance in the Asian region through events such as this.

“That is why we are delighted to have forged a partnership with the GCSAA that shares educational resources.”

Dr Elizabeth Guertal, Professor, Agronomy and Soils Turfgrass Management, at Auburn University, made presentations on Warm Season Turf Grass and Basic Soil Science.

Also among the speakers was Dr Simon Watson, Syngenta’s Head of Technical Services, Turf and Landscape, Asia Pacific.

Gold sponsors for the event were Jacobsen, Rain Bird, Syngenta and Toro, while Foley United were Silver sponsors. All sponsors delivered practical demonstrations on their latest products.
