The newly developed HOWOLIS Early Green fleece cover provides optimal winter protection on golf greens. The grass regenerates better and is game-ready quicker in the spring.
Lindner Suisse GmbH, based in Wattwil, has been in the wood wool business for over 100 years. The company has made a name for itself in the green industry with its wood-wool fleeces for erosion protection on steep slopes. An innovative new product has now been added to the range. The HOWOLIS Early Green fleece cover, developed in conjunction with OHS Otto Hauenstein Samen AG, opens up new application areas in the golf course sector.
The principle is simple: Shortly before the first onset of winter, cover the golf greens with the wood wool fleece and leave it until next spring after the last snow has melted. The fleece can be attached to the ground with wood or steel pegs. An optimal microclimate in which the grass can be protected from wind and weather over the winter is created under the cover. In the spring, the nature under the air-permeable wood-wool layer wakes up faster and the grass regenerates better. As a result, the golf green is ready for use earlier in the year.
This is something that has been tried and tested in the USA for a long time, and yet it is a novelty for Switzerland. Two joint attempts by Lindner Suisse GmbH and OHS in Pontresina and Davos have shown consistently positive results. Head greenkeeper Hans Jud from the Davos Golf Club is enthusiastic and wants to cover even more areas with HOWOLIS Early Green in the coming autumn. His greens, which repeatedly caused problems after the snow had melted in the past, appear fresh and green this spring after removing the wood-wool fleeces. After use, the fleece can be dried, rolled up and stored for reuse the next winter.
The areas of application can be extended as required. For example, in addition to golf greens, the goal area on football pitches can be protected optimally over the winter. Lindner Suisse GmbH will be happy to make appropriate clarifications for use in other areas on request.
