Glenmuir extends special relationship

12.17am 1st July 2009 - Sponsorship & Events

Record-breaking sponsor Glenmuir have agreed to back the flagship PGA Professional Championship for a further two years. The sponsorship extension cements one of golf’s longest standing relationships with the Scottish-based golfwear manufacturer having now been associated with the tournament for 17 years.

The championship and its eight regional qualifiers, which are staged across some of the best courses in the UK, are a popular fixture on the calendar, attracting entries from more than 650 pros annually. This year’s championship at Dundonald Links was won by Caerphilly’s James Lee.

In addition Glenmuir will continue to design and supply the team kit for the Great Britain & Ireland PGA Cup team through to 2011.

PGA chief executive Sandy Jones welcomed Glenmuir’s commitment during the current difficult economic climate.

“In these difficult economic times it is reassuring that a sponsor that has now been with us for 17 years has agreed to continue that relationship,” said Jones. “Their biggest motivation is that they believe passionately in the club pro and the benefits the club pro brings to the game and to their company.

“From the PGA’s perspective we welcome the news and thank Glenmuir for their on-going support for our members at the sharp end of the game and in supporting an event which is their Major.”

Glenmuir’s managing director Colin Mee added: “"Our long standing sponsorship of the PGA Professional Championship provides the foundation of our communication to golf professionals throughout the UK, we are proud to have worked with the PGA over the last 17 years and I am delighted to be able to extend this partnership into 2011.”
