A greens mower manufactured less than 60 miles away on the production line at the Ransomes Jacobsen factory in Ipswich, is being used at Great Yarmouth and Caister Golf Club on the Norfolk coast.
Simon Clark is the Head Greenkeeper at the links course, which sits within the confines of the North Denes, an area of sand dunes protected from the North Sea by an extensive shingle beach. A scratch golfer, he has been at the club for 20 years and manages a team of two greenkeeping staff.
“I first saw the Jacobsen GP400 at a roadshow organised by our local Ransomes Jacobsen dealer, Bartram Mowers. It’s a very manoeuvrable machine, very similar to competitor models, but this particular machine has a swing out centre cutting unit. It’s a clever feature and helps ensure that we keep it regularly maintained. We purchased it a year ago and it has done a good job for us.
“We have small tees on the course and it will make a good tees mower, when it days as a greens mower are over, although that won’t be in the near future. We were considering an Eclipse 322, the hybrid greens mower from Ransomes Jacobsen, but thought it had a few more features than we needed here. The GP400 is competitively priced with a superb quality of cut, and that was certainly a factor in our purchasing decision.”
