Windermere Golf Club has held another successful ‘night golf’ event, having been inundated with requests following their first night golf experience last November. The only golf club in South Lakeland to have ever held an event of this nature, the night golf was a great success, despite the difficult weather conditions. 36 golfers from across the region braved the wind and rain to take part in an unique opportunity to play the game in a fun and challenging way.
The Night Golf Company was brought in to organise and manage the event, with fairways lit on either side with white lights, greens encircled with green lights, and tees marked with red and blue lights. The balls are approved size and weight and will perform to approximately 90% of a normal golf ball. They contain 2 LED lights which illuminate when hit and stay lit for ten minutes, so that the complete flight of the ball can easily be seen through the air and found even in thick rough. Each player is provided with a different coloured ball. The evening cost £25 per person, including dinner, night golf and prizes, with the first prize being awarded to Tom Rothwell and his team.
“Following the very first night golf event held last November, we were overwhelmed with calls for a second one.” said Club Captain, Mike Todd. “Night golf is a really stimulating way to play the game. You can’t see the trouble ahead of you, so in a way, there is more freedom in play. Friday was both a social and memorable night and everybody loved it. It has also proved to be an effective way to bring younger members into the clubhouse. We are going to be holding another night golf event later in the year and are once again expecting a high level of interest.”
