The European Institute of Golf Course Architects has announced an exciting programme of speakers for its two day 2001 Conference on Golf, Housing and the Environment to be held at Queens College, Cambridge on 11th and 12th December.
A wide range of disciplines involved with the planning and construction of golf and housing communities will be represented. Subjects for discussion on the first day include the history and development of the relationship between housing and golf, the influence of planning policies across Europe and the integration of other recreational facilities within residential communities.
There will also be presentations on methods for successful resort development and on the opportunities and benefits for increased environmental awareness during the planning procedure.
Three developments have been selected for special study: Wychwood Park, Crewe; Seddiner See, Berlin; and Pont Royale, Marseille.
On the second day the Conference will look to the future, investigating self-sustainable management opportunities for golf and residential communities, successful commercial operations and the requirements of the developer.
The keynote speaker will be renowned golf course architect Desmond Muirhead who will talk on day two about the integration of golf and housing in the United States. Mr. Muirhead is an authority on this subject having trained as a land planner before becoming a golf course architect. He is credited as being the first to use the term ‘golf course community’.
Tickets for the EIGCA Conference are available from the EIGCA headquarters at Merrist Wood and cost £295 (excluding VAT). This includes entrance to both Conference days, the gala dinner on the night of 11th December, lunches, breakfast and refreshments, as well as overnight accommodation at Queen’s College.
Queen’s College was founded in 1448 and is located close to the centre of Cambridge. Its combination of medieval and modern architecture provides an inspiring venue.
