Qatar Fertiliser Company (QAFCO) has confirmed a landmark three year partnership with Commercial Bank QatarMasters, Qatar’s flagship golf event. This exciting partnership will see QAFCO support the brand new ‘Kids Zone’ during the four day European Tour sanctioned event.

The partnership contract was signed between QAFCO and Commercial Bank following the official pre-event press conference at Doha Golf Club yesterday. Hamed Al Marwani, Chief Administration Officer, QAFCO, and CEO of Commercial Bank, Abdulla Raisi, signed the agreement, marking QAFCO’s first venture into golf sponsorship.

Back for the 17th consecutive year and with a new look for 2014, the Commercial Bank Qatar Masters will bring together the world’s leading golfers from January 22-25, for four days of top-class sporting action at Doha Golf Club. Watched by an audience of millions around the world and joined by tens of thousands of event spectators each year, the Commercial Bank Qatar Masters is one of the Middle East’s most prestigious sporting events.

QAFCO’s sponsorship of the brand new Kids Zone on the lawn beside clubhouse during the tournament will expand the event’s family offering. It will allow kids of all ages to have fun trying out a number of different sports with mini basketball, mini tennis, mini golf and mini soccer all on offer throughout the four day event. Families are encouraged to come along and enjoy everything the tournament has to offer, with world-class golf on the Championship Course and a wide range of family activities in the brand new Kids Zone and popular public village.

The Qatar Fertiliser Company (QAFCO), was incorporated in 1969 as a joint venture, and is currently owned by IQ, Fertilizer Holdings AS and Yara Netherland BV. An established supporter of sport in Qatar, QAFCO conducted its 24th Annual Tennis Open Championship in 2013, in association with the Qatar Tennis Federation. The company’s vision statement makes clear its intention to build a future based on world class performance with deep Qatari roots, and a strong presence in the world. This sentiment fits naturally with Commercial Bank Qatar Masters, a key event in The European Tour international schedule, with one of the most competitive playing fields in the Middle East.

Mr. Hamed Al Marwani, Chief Administrative Officer, QAFCO, commented “We are delighted to be involved with this event. We have strong roots in Qatar and a long history of sporting sponsorship here, so it is a sincere partnership between us and one of the Middle East’s most prestigious sporting events. This is a tournament not only for golf enthusiasts, but one for families, and our involvement in the Kids Zone aims to expand that reputation even further.”

Abdulla Saleh Al Raisi, CEO Commercial Bank, commented, “With QAFCO supporting the brand new Kids Zone at Commercial Bank Qatar Masters, it really is an event for the whole family and reaches out to a wide audience locally, regionally and globally. We look forward to working together further to continue to raise Qatar’s profile on the world’s sporting stage. These are exciting times for both of us.”
