Bothwell Castle Golf Club to host 2014 Under 14 Scottish Open Championship

12.26pm 6th December 2013 - Sponsorship & Events

BCGC Web Picture Under14'sBothwell Castle Golf Club is to host the Boys and Girls Under 14 National Championships next August, following on from other well known Scottish courses such as this year’s, Fortrose & Rosemarkie Golf Club.

Jointly run by the SGU and SLGA, the event has since 2004 been sponsored by the Loretto School Golf Academy and attracts talented young golfers from across the UK and abroad.

Following the Club’s selection, Club Captain Ken Storrier said: “BothwellCastle is delighted and proud to be selected to host a national golf event. In recent years the Club has invested heavily in improving the course and associated facilities and we believe we now have the finest golf venue in Lanarkshire, and that this selection reflects the achievement of all involved.”

General Manager Jim Callaghan CCM added: “Our location makes us easily accessible from many areas of Scotland and beyond, so we look forward to welcoming up to 120 young golfers and many supporters. Last year we hosted the West of Scotland Ladies Inter Counties Championship, and the success of that and other events will hold us in good stead for next year.”

A mature parkland course with extensive modern club facilities, Bothwell Castle Golf Club is the first Club in the Lanarkshire area to host this prestigious event.

The Club itself has a vibrant junior section, which is in no small way due to the extensive junior coaching programme run by Club Professional and European Tour players coach Alan McCloskey.

Jim Callaghan continues: “This year Honorary Club Member Pamela Pretswell had a very successful inaugural year as a professional on the Ladies European Tour; Gents Team member James Steven secured a sponsorship to study in the US at the University of Central Arkansas, and the Clubs Gents champion Colin Baird, and Ladies champion Eva O’Connor are young golfers aged 22 and 16. Who said golf was an old person’s sport?”
