Abacus Sportswear, the Swedish technical clothing brand and pioneer of high-performance stretch waterproof fabrics, has introduced Cocona fabric technology to its Spring/Summer 2013 range.
Cocona technology permanently incorporates natural active particles that have micro porous structures, into fibres, fabrics, polymers, and films. These active particles have been tested by industry standards and have been found to enhance the performance of fabrics by 30 to 50%.
Cocona, featured in the abacus® Flixton polo, is a fabric made from natural coconut shell fibres containing active carbon, which absorbs UV, shielding skin from harmful sun rays, as well as providing evaporative cooling and odour management.
Chris Mattsson, designer at Abacus Sportswear said: “Golfers spend a lot of time in the sun, often at the hottest times of day. With growing concerns about skin cancer across the globe, with at least 100,000 diagnosed cases in the UK alone each year, we recognise the importance of sun protection for golfers.
“The innovative technology within the natural fibres of Cocona fabric is emblematic of the emerging trend in the fashion industry as we move towards combining fashion with function.”
The designer continued, “For ladies, the UV cut sleeves are a handy addition to any short sleeved polo. The lightweight sleeves are made from UV protective technology, making them a convenient alternative to wearing a long sleeved top on a sunny day.”
