Two auctions staged at the world-renowned Emirates Golf Club and Dubai Creek Golf & Yacht Club, have raised £16,950 for the Seve Ballesteros Foundation, operator Dubai Golf has announced.
As part of the many celebratory events to mark the 25th anniversary of Emirates Golf Club – the Middle East’s first all-grass golf course and home to the World Top 100 Majlis Course – and the 20th anniversary of Dubai Creek Golf and Yacht Club, Dubai Golf hosted the two charity auctions featuring some incredible items, including:
- Business class trip for two on Emirates Airlines to play Oak Hill Country Club in America, venue for this year’s USPGA Championship, and stay at the Country Club of Rochester in New York
- Business class trip for two on Emirates Airlines to stay and play at The Olympic Club in San Francisco, host venue of last year’s US Open
- Week’s golf holiday for two on the Indian Ocean island of Mauritius, staying at The Heritage Le Telfair Golf & Spa Resort
- Tennis shirt signed by Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray.
The Seve Ballesteros Foundation, a charity established by the iconic golfer in 2009, in partnership with Cancer Research UK, funds pioneering, life-saving research into brain tumours.
Jools Tait, Director of Partnerships at Cancer Research UK, said: “On behalf of the Seve Ballesteros Foundation, I ’d like to say a very big thank you to Dubai Golf for the fantastic funds that have been raised. We continue to work towards a day when all cancers can be cured and achieve Seve’s vision for his foundation. Funds raised by Dubai Golf, through the generosity of its members, will make a huge difference and go directly towards our brain cancer research.”
Christopher May, Chief Executive of Dubai Golf, added: “Seve was an inspiration to golfers across the world but also made a huge impression in Dubai, winning the Dubai Desert Classic at Emirates Golf Club in 1992 – it also seemed fitting that we presented the cheque to his charity at the ‘home of golf’, St Andrews, where Seve won the second of his three Open Championship titles in 1984.”
