Abacus Sportswear, Official Clothing Supplier to The 2013 European Solheim Cup Team, has begun final preparations for the biennial match at Colorado Golf Club, Parker, USA, 13-18 August, by measuring up prospective players.

During a special fitting session at the Ladies German Open at Golfpark Gut Häusern, München, leading European players were sized up by abacus® head seamstress Martell Nielsen.

Players – who won’t know for sure whether they have made the team until after the Ricoh Women’s British Open concludes on 4 August – were brought in one-by-one to be personally fitted for practice and match day outfits, including Captain Liselotte Neumann.

Many commented on the subtle details of the garments, as well as their light weight, stretchability and breathability – features that have become synonymous with the European Team’s wardrobe since abacus® started dressing the Team in 2007.

Chris Mattsson, Abacus Sportswear’s Head Designer, is confident that the exclusively crafted garments will measure up to the players’ expectations, in both functionality and design.

She said: “Liselotte Neumann has exacting requirements for the Team outfits and has been actively engaged with the design, development and fitting process. Her attention to detail is impressive and she is leaving no room for chance.”

This year, the European Solheim Cup Team will wear lightweight, breathable layers, including the abacus® Forged polo and Mulligan fullzip fleece from its Spring/Summer 2013 collection, which are easily removed, enabling the team to adjust their clothing for optimal comfort.

Players will also have the weather-beating, stretchable abacus® Pitch Nordic jacket, Waterville softshell vest and Pitch trousers.

Captain Neumann is confident her Team will be ready, whatever the weather: “As a player, I have worked with abacus® at previous Solheim Cup matches and know that their clothes not only make you look good but also feel good.

“On a day where you have to perform your best, you need to be feeling your best. If you go back and look at the outfits Abacus Sportswear designed for the matches in Chicago and in Ireland, they were smart and stylish while maintaining the important technical aspects within the fabrics. That’s exactly what we need. There’s nothing better than leaving your hotel room feeling good – it makes you feel stronger and gives you confidence.”

All products from the abacus® Spring/Summer 2013 collection, including rain suits, windwear and UV protective garments, will be available to purchase with The Solheim Cup crest from 20th June 20 at www.solheimcupeurope.com/shop and at the Merchandise Shop, Colorado Golf Club, 14-18 August.
