Edgbaston Golf Club is celebrating the completion of an investment programme worth over £150k to upgrade and modernise its clubhouse, golf shop and practice facilities, to coincide with the start of the new golf season.

The redevelopment reinforces the club’s position as Birmingham’s premier city centre golf facility and capitalises on a demand for alternative conference and meeting room venues, with fine dining catering and on-site parking.

The Courtyard Room, the main function room in the historic 18th Century Grade II listed clubhouse, has been totally refurbished to provide traditional dining accommodation with a contemporary twist.  Whilst it primarily services members’ events and corporate golf days, it is now being offered as a private function facility for wedding receptions and conferences.

From the golfer’s perspective, members and visitors now benefit from a vastly improved and enlarged golf shop, competitively stocked with all the leading brands of golf equipment and clothing, under the expert management of the club’s new Director of Golf, David Fulcher, formerly attached to The Belfry.

The club also boasts the arrival of greatly improved teaching and practice facilities, with the development of a state-of-the-art Indoor Swing Suite, housing all the latest audio visual equipment and technology for video golf swing analysis.

In addition members, visiting golfers and tuition pupils will soon be reaping the benefits of a new outdoor short game area, which opens in May, and is complemented by a superb new on-course under-cover long game practice facility.

All three practice venues provide an excellent teaching and game improvement area for beginners and well established golfers, with individual and group lessons offered to any golfer by David Fulcher and his teaching assistants.

Commenting on the range of new facilities, Adam Grint, General Manager at Edgbaston Golf Club said: “We are delighted to have completed the first phase of an on-going improvement programme for the club since securing a new 99 year lease from Calthorpe Estates last year.

“In recent years we have invested heavily on the course, introducing a new drainage and irrigation system, consequently the greens have never been in better shape.  The quality of the course continues to fuel interest in the club from a membership, casual green fee, society and corporate golf day perspective; but now we have a clubhouse, golf shop and first class teaching and practice facilities that are in keeping with the club’s premier status and tradition.

“Modernising and upgrading the clubhouse is a key part of our strategy to attract more players and social members, in particular young business professionals from the local residential and city centre communities.  To help with this we are delighted to be working with Birmingham Future on a networking event scheduled for May 2013”, he added.
