GFX girlThe British Golf Industry Association (BGIA) is to donate £15,000 to support leading charity the Golf Foundation’s work in developing golf in schools, communities and golf clubs.

Around £8,000 was raised thanks to companies and organisations from across the golf industry playing in the BGIA Golf Day, held last Tuesday (16th April) at Woburn Golf Club in Buckinghamshire.

Trustees of the BGIA’s ‘Grow Golf’ initiative have elected to add to this figure to make a significant Grow Golf contribution to junior grass roots golf of £15,000.

The donation will be utilised for the Foundation’s ‘HSBC Golf Roots’ programme which, through Tri-Golf, Golf Xtreme, the Junior Golf Passport and other projects, reaches hundreds of thousands of youngsters from different backgrounds and circumstances.

Mike Round, Chief Executive of the Golf Foundation, said: “We would like to offer a big thank you to the Grow Golf Trustees again this year, who have chosen to support our strategy that works to include more boys and girls in a great sport, while helping to protect the future of the golf industry.

“A special thank you also to every player who took part in the BGIA Golf Day at Woburn. Their organisations have supported our cause by contributing to a really well-run event for golf industry professionals.”

Mike Round also praised the BGIA member organisations which donated prizes for the golf day, thus enabling more money to be donated to good causes.

The Trustees of the BGIA’s Grow Golf initiative have been key supporters of the Golf Foundation. This latest contribution follows a £120,000 Grow Golf grant during the last three years.

The Golf Foundation team was able to talk to leading golf industry figures about their work at the BGIA event’s annual dinner, which was sponsored by Golf Monthly magazine.

The original Grow Golf contributors were Acushnet Europe, Callaway Golf, PING Europe, and TaylorMade-adidas Golf, and this group of companies has been joined by Brand Fusion International, Eaton Golf Pride, Motocaddy, Peter Millar, SPORTS MARKETING SURVEYS INC. and Yonex. All of these members pay an annual levy based on their UK turnover into the Grow Golf fund.

Grow Golf Trustees are actively seeking other applicants to the fund, in addition to new contributing companies, and would be delighted to consider applications for funding from those who require support for innovative proposals which will stimulate the growth of the game at national, regional or local level.
