Sir Nick Faldo has announced a 2013 Faldo Series Europe schedule that features a record 20 events in 14 countries, including new tournaments in Abu Dhabi and Italy. With the Faldo Series Asia schedule set to be finalised in the coming weeks, the global golf development programme will benefit more than 7,000 young golfers in 30 countries this year.
“We are excited about our continued expansion in Europe, the Middle East and South America,” said Faldo. “2013 will be another significant year for Faldo Series participants and when you factor in our Asian schedule we hope to bring opportunity to 7,000 young golfers this year through 40 events in 30 countries worldwide. This would not be possible without the generous support of our partners, including The R&A, the European Tour and ISPS.”
“We are delighted to have been chosen as the Middle East venue to host the Faldo Series,” said Michaela Forrester, Golf Manager of Al Ain Equestrian, Shooting & Golf Club in Abu Dhabi. “We look forward to welcoming talented young golfers from the UAE and neighbouring countries to Al Ain in April.”
Supported by The R&A, ISPS and the European Tour, the 2013 Faldo Series Europe schedule will feature a record 20 tournaments in 14 countries including six in England plus others in Ireland, Abu Dhabi, Chile, the Czech Republic, Scotland, Austria, Wales, Brazil, Italy, The Netherlands, Germany, Slovakia and Greece.
Following the season-opening UK Championships at Moortown and West Lancs in England, the European schedule continues with the sixth Ireland Championship at Lough Erne Resort on April 16-17. It will conclude with the 17th Faldo Series Europe Grand Final, a World Amateur Golf Ranking event hosted by the six-time Major Champion.
Open to boys and girls aged 12 to 21, the Faldo Series was established in Europe in 1996 and in Asia in 2006. Past winners include Major winners Rory McIlroy and Yani Tseng.
