Internet links Dumfreis and Papua New Guinea

9.00am 2nd July 2001 - Corporate

Since launching its new golf website in early February, Dumfriesshire based crystal engraver Galloway Glass has secured on line business from a new customer on the other side of the world – the Lae Golf and Country Club in Papua New Guinea which chose a range of individually engraved crystal prizes and trophies from Galloway Glass for use at two of its open competitions.

James Green Captain at the Lae Club said, “Apart from one or two phone calls everything was completed on line and our members and guests to the club were delighted with their tee prizes and golfing trophies. In PNG we are used to paying a bit more for carriage but as experienced exporters Galloway Glass were able to keep our shipping costs to a minimum”

Over the summer months Galloway Glass will concentrate on increasing traffic to the site in a bid to secure additional end of season golf club prize-giving work.

“Website generated business like this is greatly encouraging for us,” said Frances McCallum, director of Galloway Glass, “particularly as we suffered a downturn through the first quarter of this year in our local business as a result of the outbreak of foot and mouth disease in Dumfriesshire. We see the continued promotion of our three web sites as an effective way of both widening our customer base and growing the business”
