The organisers of the World Corporate Golf Challenge (WCGC) have confirmed that VisitScotland – the country’s national tourism organisation – will sponsor the 2013 World Final.
The announcement follows the confirmation that the 20th anniversary of the largest amateur corporate golf event in the world will take place, for the first time in its history, in Scotland, the Home of Golf, from 7th – 12th May at De Vere Cameron House and The Carrick on Loch Lomond.
The World Corporate Golf Challenge began in the United Kingdom in 1993 and since its inception over one million people have taken part in over twenty countries. As a result, the event is now an international network of national amateur corporate golf tournaments promoted and run in association with local national media partners. The annual winners from each country compete in the World Final representing not only their company but also their country. Time and Fortune magazines plus television partner Golfing World are the international global media partners further enhancing the global reach of the WCGC.
Scotland, De Vere Cameron House and The Carrick will host business men and women from all over the world during the five-day event and Harry Lloyd, Event Director at The World Corporate Golf Challenge said, “The World Corporate Golf Challenge has a wonderful history and we are delighted that VisitScotland has confirmed their support. This event is more than just a golf tournament; it truly connects business people from around the world through the game of golf. We are certain that the World Corporate Golf Challenge will provide a great platform to showcase what Scotland and the local area have to offer to the global audience, not just from a golf and leisure perspective but also from a business perceptive. We are in no doubt that the legendary Scottish hospitality that all of the competitors will receive will make this year’s World Final a truly memorable occasion.”
Malcolm Roughhead, Chief Executive of VisitScotland, said: “Scotland is not only the Home of Golf, it is a place to do great business and we are delighted the final of The World Corporate Golf Challenge will be held this year in one of Scotland’s most scenic locations, on the banks of Loch Lomond.
“As we prepare to welcome the world in 2014 it is crucial we bring high profile events and ensure that business community is focused on the opportunities that tourism can bring.
“We have a proud heritage of hosting the world’s most prestigious golf events as well as playing on the international stage when it comes to business and combining the two in hosting The World Corporate Golf Challenge makes great sense.”
Enterprise Minister Fergus Ewing said, “I am delighted that the largest amateur corporate golf event in the world is coming to Scotland – the home of golf. Golf tourism is worth an estimated £220m to Scotland annually and attracts around 220,000 golfing visitors annually.”
“Attracting international and UK-based golfers to Scotland is a key strand in the country’s tourism marketing strategy and this event will provide a strong opportunity to showcase Scotland as a great destination for business and pleasure to a global audience.”
