PGA Catalunya Resort, near Barcelona, is celebrating a second consecutive ‘Travel Awards’ distinction from respected journal, Today’s Golfer Magazine.
Readers of the UK’s best-selling golf magazine recognised PGA Catalunya Resort’s Stadium Course in the ‘Best Golf Course in Spain’ category, its runners-up spot underlining the resort’s reputation as a World Top 100 venue.
“PGA Catalunya Resort hasn’t looked back since opening in 1999, going from strength to strength year-on-year,” stated Today’s Golfer Courses Editor, Kevin Brown. “It has undoubtedly established itself as one of Spain and continental Europe’s leading golf venues. Everything about it is sheer class and no wonder it is so popular with top pros and average golfers alike.”
This award represents just one of the many highlights of 2012, which saw PGA Catalunya Resort become the highest-ranked Spanish course (77th) in Golf World Magazine’s inaugural ‘World Top 100 Golf Courses You Can Play’ ranking, and also named Spain’s No.1 golf course by respected website, Top100GolfCourses.co.uk
Other landmarks included the opening of the world’s first Sergio Garcia Junior Golf Academy, the Spanish golfer’s first teaching academy, and the announcement of a three-year partnership with the European Tour, which sees the Qualifying School Final Stage return to PGA Catalunya Resort until at least 2014.
The two-time Spanish Open venue also hosted the only European RE/MAX World Long Drive Championship, the fifth consecutive European Tour Qualifying School Final Stage, as well as the annual golf and paddle tournament between former Barcelona FC and Real Madrid footballers.
Commenting on the past year, PGA Catalunya Resort Chief Executive, Julio Delgado, said: “We have always strived to provide a world-class golf experience, offering only the best levels of service to our customers, and we believe we will continue to enhance our offering with the plans we have in place for 2013.”
During 2012, PGA Catalunya Resort also completed sales on 25 properties, demonstrating its ability to defy Europe’s current challenging economic climate and attract new buyers and investors.
This year, the 36-hole venue will see the opening of The Residents’ Club, a luxury sport and leisure complex designed exclusively for its property owners, and a series of luxury villas designed by renowned property architect, Richard Hywel Evans.
These new developments, coupled with the continued investment in infrastructure, further enhance PGA Catalunya Resort’s reputation as a secure and well-managed development that continues to attract property purchasers from across Europe.
