Reuters, the global information, news and technology group, is to sponsor the PGA European Tour Performance Data, commencing with this week’s Benson & Hedges International Open and The De Vere Belfry in the UK.

Reuters Performance Data is shown at regular intervals during live television coverage of the Tour. It provides analytical information about every shot played by all Tour players during the 11 month season which includes 38 events in 22 countries.

This data, the official statistics of the PGA European Tour, will shortly also be included in Reuters news services to financial markets as well as to its traditional and new media on-line customers world-wide. Around 73 million unique visitors per month access Reuters content on some 1,400 Internet websites. In 2000 the Group had revenues of £3.59 billion and employed 18,000 staff in 204 cities in 100 countries.

The PGA European Tour Performance Data is collected by players’ caddies. It covers, stroke average, driving accuracy, driving distance, greens in regulation, putts per round, purrs per greens in regulation and sand saves. The European Tour publishes this information at www.europeantour.com.

“We are delighted to be sponsoring the Performance Data on the PGA European Tour,” said Jean-Claude Marchand, Reuters Group marketing director. “Providing accurate, impartial information is useful to players, the media and golf followers. This valuable data on a very popular sport will be welcomed by our customers world-wide.”

“The Performance Data has proved to be a success with both the players and the media associated with The European Tour, indicating the importance and accuracy of information provided,” said Ken Schofield, executive director. “Reuters is an excellent addition to our family of sponsors. Electronic information is playing an increasingly important role in all walks of life and we look forward to developing a close association with our new partner.”
