Following two days of play in Myrtle Beach, S.C. at Grande Dunes and Pine Lakes Country Club, the 26th annual John Deere World Championship came to a close, with a Swedish team winning for the second year in a row.

The team included Monica Berlin, Owe Larsson, Maria Lindblom, representatives from Grödinge Golf Club, Södertälje, Sweden, and Bill Soderberg, John Deere Golf distributor, Sodertalje, Sweden. The two-day tournament ended in a two-hole playoff, in which four flight-winning teams competed. The winning team closed the World Championship with a net score of 100.

“It was another year of great competition and an opportunity for John Deere Golf customers from across the globe to network with their peers and enjoy their favorite pastime,” said Cory Niehaus, tournament director, John Deere Golf.  “Providing this opportunity to our customers is a huge priority, we’re thrilled to have such great participation in this event.”

At this year’s tournament, 204 players made up 51 teams and represented 10 different countries. With players coming from such a diverse background, conversation was rich as attendees were eager to share best practices and hear about the challenges and successes of their peers.

“One thing that we see from customers, regardless of their location, is their desire to constantly improve their day-to-day routine by putting new innovation to the test, and sharing lessons learned,” said Mark Ford, marketing manager, John Deere Golf.  “At John Deere Golf we’re committed to supporting our customers and the growth of the golf industry on a whole, and by having these events and giving professionals the opportunity to play some of the best courses on earth, we’re fostering the sharing of information and education which will spur this growth.”

John Deere Golf partnered with the prestigious Pine Lakes Country Club to hold the tournament and Michael Bankert, superintendent, prepared Grande Dunes to perfection.

“At Grande Dunes we’re honoured to host such a great industry event that’s all about supporting the global growth of the industry,” said Max Morgan, vice president of agronomy for National Golf Management Company. “As always, we prepped the courses to their highest potential, and we’re honoured to share our work with fellow John Deere customers from some of the best courses around the world.”
