The newly formed Asian Golf Industry Federation has hit the road running and its commitment to work for the burgeoning golf industry in Asia has been very clearly defined.
At a Board of Director’s meeting, the newly elected President of AGIF, Wong Khen Jee declared, “We have a lot to do for our industry but we want to focus on the priorities first and our energies will be directed at golf course owners, operators, captains, club managers and course superintendents.”
“These will be our target groups and our immediate drive will be aimed at defining the needs of these groups and to effectively address these needs through properly structured education and training programmes.”
Khen Jee went on to add, “It is absolutely imperative that the AGIF places its attention on those areas that need help most and we hope that over time, we will be able to bring about change for the better across the board.”
In this connection, the AGIG has set up ten high-powered liaison committees to look into key sectors of the golf industry in Asia with the expressed view of drawing up a master plan which will serve as the roadmap to improving standards in the golf industry throughout the vast continent.
“What is most inspiring is that the AGIF has been able to assemble some of the best brains in the business to come together and collectively work for the general betterment of the industry as a whole,” explained Khen Jee.
“The way we see it, the AGIF is an all important body that is representative of the trade and driven by the trade,” he said.
One of the key developments for the AGIF is its new responsibility as the sanctioning authority and host for the 2009 Asia Pacific Golf Summit to be held in Kuala Lumpur on 26-28 October 2009.
“Working together with the organizers (Asia Pacific Golf Development Conferences), we hope to provide direction and guidance to make this very important trade event more meaningful for all of us in the trade,” Khen Jee added.
The AGIF is now fully operational and it will soon commence a drive for members. Its dedicated web site www.asiangolfindustryfederation.com will be fully operational at the end of May.
