7.28am 6th May 2009 - Travel

A package to bring golfers to East Yorkshire has welcomed its 1000th customer in only its first year. The Golf Coast Passport, launched in April 2008, offers visitors to the region the opportunity to play golf at any of four different courses in and around Bridlington, including The Links and Flamborough Head golf clubs.

Visit Hull and East Yorkshire (VHEY) in partnership with the four clubs created the innovative golf pass, giving individual and group visitors to Bridlington and the East Yorkshire area the opportunity to play on all four fantastic courses and enjoy incredible savings of up to half the normal green fees.

Hotels in Bridlington are also part of the package, offering golfers somewhere to rest their weary feet after a long day on the course, or in the rough around it! The Revelstoke and the Royal Hotel in Bridlington are just two of the places golfers can stay whilst enjoying their break.

Janet Reuben, chief executive of VHEY, said, “Its fantastic news that the Golf Coast Passport has been such a success. Golfing is one of the most popular past times around the world, and with this region having such a bountiful choice of courses it provides an irresistible attraction to golfers.”

Anthony Howarth, professional at Bridlington Golf Club, said, “The concept of the passport was to attract golfers to Bridlington with a mission to boost tourism by encouraging short breaks. Since its launch in April last year the passport has been a huge success with nearly 600 packages sold last year.”

VHEY promotes and develops the region aiming to grow tourism value by 5% year on year www.realyorkshire.co.uk
