adidas teams up with EGU

8.50am 2nd March 2001 - Sponsorship & Events

adidas and the English Golf Union have signed a three-year agreement which will see all international England teams wearing adidas Golf clothing. The official England adidas uniform was unveiled last weekend when the full England side took on Spain at El Prat in Barcelona.

Under the agreement, adidas will supply shirts, trousers, sweaters, waterproofs, hats and other clothing as well as the Z Traxion shoe which is being worn by over 30 players on the European Tour including former leading amateurs Sergio Garcia and Justin Rose. All items of clothing will carry the cross of St George as well as the EGU’s familiar red rose logo.

“We at adidas Golf are delighted to be supporting the English Golf Union and its representative teams with footwear and apparel for the next three years,” says Robin Gibson, European marketing manager, TaylorMade adidas Golf. “This deal cements adidas’ support for amateur golf in England and formalises the use of adidas products, which had already become the footwear of choice for the majority of the England team players”

Paul Baxter, Secretary of the EGU, says of the sponsorship, “the English Golf Union is pleased to have secured the support of adidas Golf for the provision of footwear and apparel for all international teams over the next three years. This arrangement continues our desire to partner leading companies in the pursuit of excellence”.

The agreement also applies to England’s under-16, boys and youth teams.
