The Kent National Golf Course could be reinstated as a golf facility – or it could find a new lease of life (subject to the necessary planning permissions), perhaps as the grounds of a brand new country house, an equestrian cross country course, a game shoot, a leisure activity venue, a nature park, a deer park or farmland.
The course was developed during 1991 and 1992 by a recognised Japanese architect, K Saito, whose ambition was to create a facility to challenge the most experienced golfer. It was bought three years later by golf chain British Ensign and, at the height of its popularity, had a strong membership base. However, it was closed in October 2008 after the clubhouse was sold for residential development. The course is being maintained to a playable condition.

The land lies in a conservation area just over five miles from Royal Tunbridge Wells, is roughly square in shape and includes a 37,000-gallon reservoir and a number of boreholes. There are four buildings currently on the site in the greenkeeper’s compound: an office/workshop with showers and toilet facilities, two machinery barns and a material store.
