Etihad launches ‘my first golf lesson’ programme

12.03am 19th January 2009 - Sponsorship & Events

Children taking part in Etihad Airways’ new children’s golf programme at Abu Dhabi’s Emirates Palace Hotel were given VIP treatment by current US Masters Champion, Trevor Immelman.

Entitled “my first golf lesson” programme, 30 children aged between seven and 14 years old took part in the first clinics.

Immelman, making his first visit to Abu Dhabi, is taking part in this week’s Abu Dhabi Golf Championship. He also joined Etihad to take part in Wednesday’s iconic “shot from the yacht” challenge at Emirates Palace.

Peter Baumgartner, Etihad Airways’ executive vice present marketing and product, said, “Following the enormous success of the Etihad Airways rugby and soccer schools we are thrilled to have now launched the “my first golf lesson” programme which will teach local and international children in Abu Dhabi the basics of this exciting sport.

“It is wonderful to welcome Trevor Immelman, current US Masters Champion, to take part in the first session at Emirates Palace.”

Etihad Airways, a diamond sponsor of the Abu Dhabi Golf Championship for the fourth consecutive year, will work on the golf programme throughout 2009 with Troon Golf at Abu Dhabi Golf Club.

Two golf sessions will take place every month starting at the end of January with coaching from Abu Dhabi Golf Club professionals, headed by Esmund Couthier.
