New GPS System Allows Alcanada to Take Control

2.48am 29th May 2012 - Travel

Club de Golf Alcanada is guaranteeing visitors a better experience than ever this summer with the club having taken delivery of a new GPS system for its buggy fleet.

The award-winning Mallorca course has installed Club Car’s Visage GPSi technology in all 30 of its Club Car Precedent buggies in order to maximise customer satisfaction amongst both its members and guests.

The sophisticated software system enables course staff to remotely control their golf car fleet, optimise course maintenance with ‘no-drive’ zones and monitor pace of play.

The ground-breaking technology also gives golfers precise shot and distance information and flyover video graphics of each hole, while players can make use of a virtual scorecard which can be e-mailed to them at home after visiting Alcanada.

And that’s not all as people can also take advantage of a new Buggy Bar to order a quick drink or snack as they negotiate their way around the 6,499-metre course – direct from the comfort of their golf cart.

Kristoff Both, director of golf at Club de Golf Alcanada, said: “We looked at all the best possible solutions and are delighted with the decision that we have made. Providing customer satisfaction is at the heart of everything we do at Alcanada, from the moment people arrive to the moment they leave.”

Alcanada has made a sensational start to 2012 and was the venue in March for the prestigious Copa de S.M el Rey tournament – regarded as Spanish golf’s amateur championship and won by the likes of Jose Maria Olazabal, Darren Clarke and Sergio Garcia in the past.

In addition, it was also named best golf course in Europe for the fourth year in a row by the readers of top German magazine Golf Journal.

Situated in the north region of Mallorca in a breathtaking location overlooking theBayofAlcudia, Alcanada’s 18-hole championship course was designed by award-winning golf architect Robert Trent Jones Jnr and opened in 2003.

Adjacent to theMediterranean, the course blends naturally into the typical Mallorcan terrain and takes its name from an island with a lighthouse which is situated just off the shore, which can be seen from most of the holes.

Magnificent mountain and sea views and a mixture of pine and olive groves provide the splendid setting for a round at Alcanada and, despite its tender years, the course is already recognised by the golf industry as one of the finest venues in Spain and Europe and is a founder member of The Leading Golf Courses of Spain collection.

The club also boasts a centuries-old Mallorca clubhouse which offers guests the opportunity to sample regional specialities in its first-class dining facilities on its sun-baked terrace. A comprehensive golf academy including a spacious short game area and covered driving range are also available.
