SkyCaddie, the official rangefinder of the PGA, will be used by BBC Radio 5Live at the Ryder Cup in September.
On-course commentators such as Paul Eales, Andrew Murray and former Ryder Cup captain Bernard Gallagher will use the market-leading handheld GPS system to enhance their commentary from Kentucky.
The precision accuracy of the SkyCaddie will enable commentators to tell listeners just how far the USA and European stars have driven the ball on every hole, and distances to pins on the slick, tiered greens at Valhalla Golf Club.
Their top-of-the-range colour screen SkyCaddie SG5s also indicate exact yardages to every one of the 42 bunkers on the golf course.
Jackie Hitchcock, of SkyCaddie Europe, said, “We‘re delighted to be continuing our ongoing relationship with the BBC golf team. This year we‘ve helped the BBC to get precise and instant information at The Open, and at the Barclays Scottish Open, and now we will be working in tandem at the Ryder Cup.
“This further enhances SkyCaddie’s reputation for providing the most accurate and useful on-course information that a golfer can have. SkyCaddie is the world’s most accurate and reliable handheld GPS system, as all course distances have been verified on foot by a team of professional golf course ‘mappers‘.
“It’s this level of accuracy, combined with the speed of relaying information to its screen and ease of use, that has won us favour with the BBC,” she concluded.
During his Open Championship blog, Eales, a member of the European Tour Players‘ Committee, said, “My SkyCaddie never let me down all week and it proved itself to be the most useful tool I could have taken on the course.”
