Golf Development Grants awarded to Eastern Counties

10.03am 14th August 2008 - Management Topics

England Golf has awarded the Cambridgeshire, Essex and Middlesex County Golf Partnerships a total of £67,000 over the next three years to support the development of golf within the counties.

The three, which are located within the EGU/EWGA’s East Region, have all recently formed partnerships between their Men’s Union, Ladies Associations and local PGA to work together on developing the sport in their areas.

Each partnership has put together a development plan which includes actions and targets in a number of areas including recruitment, retention, player development, coaching, facilities and clubs to name a few. Individual awards are as follows:
• Cambridge awarded £20,000
• Essex awarded £25,000
• Middlesex awarded £22,000

Richard Flint, English Golf Union (EGU)/English Women’s Golf Association (EWGA) Golf Development Manager, commented, “Golf development is becoming a real focus at county level and momentum builds with three more partnerships now in place. Through the hard work and dedication of partnership steering groups, counties are able to set themselves targets for the future based on the feedback from their affiliated golf clubs.”

County Golf Partnerships have been introduced through the delivery of England Golf’s ‘Whole Sport Plan’ for golf and are an integral part of its vision to ‘Grow the Game’. 26 partnerships are now formed in England.

More information on County Golf Partnerships can be found on the ‘For Golf Clubs‘ section of the EGU website, www.englishgolfunion.org and then click on ‘Info for Counties‘.
